Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival
Drop off time is between 8:00am and 8:30am each day. If your child arrives after 8:30 am, he/she will be marked tardy. School-wide morning meeting begins at 8:15 am each day. These are important and fun for your child!
Dismissal
If your child is a CAR rider at dismissal:
Visor clips with your child’s name will be provided for your car. When you receive this, please make it visible on your car’s sun visor every time you pick your child up in the car rider line. This makes the car line run faster when signs are ready and visible. Only adults with this sign will be allowed to pick your child up in the car rider line. If you do not have a car tag, then they will ask you to come into the office and show identification.*Be prepared for a lengthy car line the first week of school. It will improve and move much faster once everyone establishes a routine. If you have a transportation change, please contact the office first before contacting me on DOJO or by e-mail.
If your child is a BUS rider at dismissal:
You can look on the school’s webpage for the approximate time your child will be picked up or dropped off. Bus drivers require that an adult be visible outside before they let a kindergarten student off of the bus. Please keep in mind that drop off times may be running behind the first week of school. If you have a kindergartener, your child MUST have on an orange vest if they are being picked up at home and dropped off at school. If your kindergartener does not have a vest, then they may not pick up your child. If you have a transportation change, please call the office first because contacting me on DOJO or by e-mail.
If your child attends After school program:
Make sure your child is enrolled in the after school program before school begins. The school office will be able to provide this information. It is provided for before and after school each day.
Orange Vests (KINDERGARTEN ONLY)
All kindergarteners in Warren County wear orange vests to and from school each day. The purpose is to alert bus drivers and faculty members that your child may need extra assistance during arrival and dismissal times. A student information card will be placed inside the clear pocket on the front of the vest. Please fill that out before the first day of school!
All kindergarten students will be wearing the vests the first two weeks of school, regardless of transportation mode. Please send your child to school wearing the vest starting on the first day of school. The vest will remain on the students during the school day for the first two weeks. After the first two weeks, I will collect the vests from all of the students except for students that ride the bus. Bus riders are required to wear vests to and from school (only when riding on the bus, during school arrival, and dismissal times) during the entire kindergarten year.

Rules and Discipline
Classroom Rules:
Rule 1: Listen when the teacher is talking.
Rule 2: Follow directions quickly.
Rule 3: Respect yourself, respect others, respect your school.
Rule 4: Raise your hand to speak or stand.
Rule 5: Be safe, be kind, be honest.
Students are given a verbal warning or two before a Dojo down. However, hitting, kicking, or verbal disrespect will result in immediate consequences. If your child gets a DOJO down for something minor, please consider it a school consequence and not a home consequence, unless it becomes a repetitious behavior. This should not ruin his/her day because he/she will still have a chance to turn their day around. I try to give many more opportunities for positive DOJO’s than I do negative. Sometimes, I even set goals for the month and provide a reward if they reach their personal goal. My idea of Dojo is not to embarrass a student. It is to help them set personal goals and to attain them. If there is a consistent behavior, then I will contact you personally to discuss what may be occurring. Just remember that we are a team!
* If there happens to be a certain concern or situation throughout the day, then I will either call or e-mail you directly. Of course, you may always e-mail, Dojo, or by school phone.

Daily Folder
Your child will bring home a daily folder. This folder will house completed student work, important class/school notes, a place to send in money, teacher/parent communication log, and a behavior calendar.
I highly recommend checking their daily folder every day! It helps to keep your child's behavior accountable, you to be in the know, and for us to be able to communicate effectively. It may also include important school information that may need to be filled out quickly.
As we progress through the year, your child will also put their reading bag in their folder daily. It could include books to practice their reading skills at home, letter rings, word rings, and eventually sight word practice lists. These are crucial to helping your child's learning develop at a steady pace.

Lunch and Snack Time
Lunch
If your child has a packed lunch, please try to pack foods that your child can open and eat with little or no adult assistance. These lunches will not be refrigerated so please pack an ice pack if there is something else that needs to stay cold.
School lunch accounts can be managed at www.mealpayplus.com . I highly recommend using this to pay for student lunches.
You are welcome to come eat with your child as you wish. Upon arrival, please check in at the office and you may wait for us in the hallway by the cafeteria. Our daily lunchtime is 12:35pm-1:00pm.
Snack
We have snack time in the morning because we have a later lunch. Students are responsible to bring their own snack each day. We do not share snacks due to possible allergies. Please try to keep a snack choice to something healthy for your child. If your child also packs a lunch in a lunchbox, please keep the snack separate. We have to be careful that students don’t eat their snack during lunchtime. I always recommend leaving an extra snack in their backpack in case you may forget that morning.

Extra Clothes
Please send a set of extra clothes and underwear in a Ziploc baggie with their name on it, so that we can keep in your child’s cubby. When the weather changes, the extra clothes will be sent home to exchange for more seasonal appropriate clothing. These are used in case of an accident and will need to be replenished if we send home a used pair of clothes.
Our Class Pet, Hopper!
Hopper is our class stuffed frog pet. He travels daily to a different child's house based on their leadership skills, hard work, and behavior throughout the day. Hopper eventually goes home with everyone several times a year!
With Hopper, you will find a notebook of his travels. At the beginning of the year, mom and dad can help write what he did for the evening in the book, maybe include a picture, or your child draw a picture of what they did that evening or weekend. Toward the end of the year, I highly encourage your child to write their own journal entry in Hopper's travel book independently.
Hopper has been to the dentist, the park, the store, birthday parties, and even to Biltmore Estate with Mrs. Brigance during a previous fall break! But beware, he really hates getting dirty, so be sure to take really good care of him while you have him. Don't forget to have fun and send him back to school the next day! P.S.- He does not turn into prince charming!
